Let our city show you what a unique, intriguing and Midwestern-friendly destination looks like. Here’s a snapshot: Thirteen museums. Blocks of historic architecture. Miles of Parkway for biking and walking. Outstanding public golf courses. A casino complete with river views and awesome mural art. A water park. The Stetson cowboy hat outlet. A world-class art museum. A wooden-bat baseball league. Broadway-style theater in a 1927 palace. A bookstore with a bar. The park with the “castle.” One of the nation’s only psychiatric museums. The Kansas City Chiefs summer practice home. A year-round symphony. One-of-a-kind restaurants and retail. Concerts, festivals and First Saturday events … and so much more. We’re the smaller city that’s not missing a thing — and we’re proud of it.
When you’re in downtown St. Joseph, get ready for some surprises. Our Sculpture Walk is an eclectic interpretive mix tucked into nearly every block. Boudreaux’s restaurant for Cajun cuisine is built in a renovated warehouse structure; Barbosa’s (authentic Mexican) is inside an impressive 1800s mansion. City Hall is an architectural gem overlooking Civic Center Park and Museum Hill, a National Register neighborhood. Grab some used books and a new cocktail at The Tiger’s Den, or an authentic wood-fired pizza at IL Lazzarone. Broadway-style productions from big names hit the amazing, suspended-ceiling theater palace, the 1927 Missouri Theater and concerts every weekend all summer long at Coleman Hawkins Park showcase our unexpectedly awesome local music scene. It won’t take long to find your own downtown favorite. For more info check out Downtown First.

Breezy, warm, cool or cloudy: The days never looked better than when you visit St. Joseph. For sports fans, check out our mountain biking trails near Corby Pond and Krug Park; our Kansas City Chiefs summer practices; our Mustangs wooden bat league and our public fishing areas. Golf at gorgeous courses including Fairview, the Moila and the Country Club. (Or mini golf with the family at Joe Town Gold). Our Parkway system is one of the nation’s first, with gentle curves and tree-lined avenues that link our flagship parks from one side of the city to the other. Paved walking and biking trails line this 26-mile gem. Hike the wooded paths at Krug Park or explore the “castle” for great photo ops. The inclusive play area at the new YMCA North Campus is top-notch and designed for children of all abilities, and our Aquatic Park has a toddler-friendly area with slides and sprays.
